Reader Mary Modrich sent us this important tip to share.

NEVER WALK AROUND IN THE DARK.

Especially when sleeping in an unfamiliar environment, and when travelling.

Did you know that about 226 million cases of significant accidental falls occurred in 2015.[1] These resulted in 527,000 deaths.
To reduce the chance of falling, Mary suggests using a phone torch, or if weight is no problem, to carry a sensor light of some description placed at floor level which is activated when you step out of bed. This inexpensive item can be either plug-in or battery-operated.

Mary also says:

We have a sensor light set up on the wall of the toilet so that we don’t have to turn on a bright light for nocturnal visits.

Great advice, Mary – thank you.
